Diodes

Electric current will only flow one way through a diode. Diodes can be used to control or 'steer' the flow of current in a circuit. One app. is the bridge rectifier operation. Other apps. are timing resistor selection during the mark or space period in an astable oscillator, and simple diode/resistor logic gates. On most diode packages a band on one end of the package marks the cathode connection.
