Power Supply by Tim Surtell - output voltage

I've built the power supply but with an input of 9v ac from the transformer I'm getting 7.5v dc output. I need to get 5v. Any ideas?

Have you tried measuring the AC output voltage of the transformer (on load) using a multimeter. Fault may be a bad solder joint or more serious an under rated transformer eventually resulting in overheating and blowing of the embedded fuse within the Mains primary winding of the transformer especially if it is a (sub)miniture type.

Output Voltage

I would also check that the regulator ic is connected properly in that the input and output connections have not been reversed which will forward bais any protection diode the regulator has connected between the input and output terminals. Also the output voltage can be increased by a small amount by any significant resistance on the regulators ground terminal circuit. Further details are given in the relavent data sheet.
