36 VDC MOTOR CONTROL

What components would be used for a controller to control the speed of a small (8'long by 36" wide) electric car with three 12VDC 40ah batterys driving two 90 VDC motors with direct drive to 13" Diameter tires. I want to run 36VDC. The controllers I bought will not allow enough current to the motors to move the car (about 350# with me in it.The controllers are 36VDC for 40 amps. I can hold the wheel with controller wide open. When hooked direct to bats at 36VDC Theres no way I can hold the wheel.
I built this car for light parade for Dec.9 so I have to do something.

36v DC motor control

If you can open the speed controller case, look to see if the main power transistors could be upgraded to pass more current. You may need to fit a larger heatsink assembly possibly over the top of the existing case. The epemag Teach-In article of Aug 2004 will explain more about motor control.
