Pulse transformer issue

I am putting a 2-3usec pulse into a Pulse transformer and getting a very short 10 nsec
pulse out of the transformer.
How can I increase the output pulse width to 3 usec.
Can 555 timer be used as a monostable vibrator to do the trick?
