why transformer is always taken in kva instead of kw ?

Rating of Transformers.

Ratings of transformers are in volt amperes instead of watts because of any phase difference between voltage and current which also involves multiplication of the phase difference (given as a cosine of from 0.5 upto 1 unity). Also called apparent/actual power difference.
