Capacitor Polarity

I recently purchased a polarized capacitor, but it does not indicate the positive or negative side. I noticed one end of the cap had a small indented "neck" around it. Does this indicate polarity in any way?

Capacitor polarity

On axial capacitors (one lead at each end) the end with the 'neck' is positive.

On radial capacitors (both leads at the same end) the longer lead is positive.

Most are clearly marked, so the one you have is unusual!

Capacitor Polarity

There may be a band on the case sheathing that indicates the negative lead (usually).
