Shift register

Hi!everyone, can you please help me understant the meaning of this word (SHIFT REGISTER) and how does the I.C works in digital circuits?

Shift register

Shift registers are formed by the interconnection of flip-flop latch stages (in a slightly different way to counters). They also have a clock(CK), data(D),and reset(R) inputs. Further information can be found in a book dealing with electronic logic in digital circuits.
