Rolling a Transformer

I build my own guitar amps, but the transformers are by far the most expensive components of the amp. I have heard of guys rolling their own transformers but I am clueless to the subject. Can anyone explain, or direct me to somewhere that will explain how to go about doing this?

transformers' characteristics

pls, tell me the types and uses of transformers.how can i rewind a transformer.what factors determines the construction of a transformer.can a transformer be used as a potential divider/potentiometer.pls tell me the types of transistor that can handle >50A and the website ican order it from

Transformer Winding

As for guitar amps the mains windings are supplied prewound. For the secondary winding the guageof wire used will depend on the power rating of the transformer probably 16-18 SWG wire. The voltage will depend on the turns ratio plus extra turns to make up for loses in the iron core.

Transistor Types >50A

The transistor types you will come across today that handle currents greater than 50A are power MOSFET's voltage rating 40 to 100 volts. Component suppliers are maplin.co.uk , esr.co.uk, rapidonline.com, and farnell.com.
